The Songs Behind the Designs: High, Colt 45 and Pound Cake

· My Story

Almost every design in our shop points back to a song, a joke or a moment from my world. Here's the guide to what's on each one, and where it comes from.

Which designs are about "Because I Got High"?

My biggest song gets three takes:

  • The script: Because I Got High in flowing white letters inside a ring of green leaves.
  • The block: BECAUSE I GOT over a giant HIGH, nothing else.
  • The coat: the same stack under an AFROMAN logo, with a little me in a long cream coat as the O.

What is "Hunter Got High"?

In April 2024 I released "Hunter Got High", a parody of my own hit, on Baste Records. Two designs come from it: a glossy space-age cover with the baste records script, and a black afro silhouette with a red pick and green lettering.

Why is there so much pound cake?

After deputies searched my home in 2022 and found nothing, I put the security footage into songs and videos, and one deputy's look at a lemon pound cake on the counter became a whole album, Lemon Pound Cake. Our collage designs, Officer Pound Cake, Is That Lemon?, the Mona Lisa parody and the raid scrapbook banner, come from those videos.

And the rest?

  • Colt 45: a nod to "Crazy Rap (Colt 45 & 2 Zig Zags)" from my album The Good Times (2001).
  • Portraits: a blackletter arc, a purple cartoon, a double portrait in leaves and a cut-out photo raising a goblet.
  • Logos: the Afroman wordmark with a cartoon head as the O, a graffiti tag and an 83 jersey.
  • The So So Def mascot: the label's own cartoon, also called Afroman. It is So So Def's mascot, and we claim no connection to the label.
